Dear Tang Yi,
You may or may not remember me. You and Shipeng took me to a very nice restaurant in Dallas on January 26, 2011 when I had a business meeting in the area. It was my birthday; you brought presents for me. Shipeng was gentle and caring as always. We talked about your daughter being admitted to Rice. I could sense the pride and connection between him and your daughter. As soon as we left the restaurant, I regret we did not have a picture taken.
Shipeng was at MIT approximately two years before me. He was there like an old brother, always encouraged me to do better and be strong in face of difficult times. We all lived in rundown apartments, but were happy and full of hope for the future. Those were transforming times that bonded us together and led us to where we are today.
Shipeng’s face is just as fresh today as it was then. He always had a genuine and unassuming smile. He is missed and always remembered as a reliable and comforting friend. We are all blessing by the opportunities of knowing him. May he rest in peace and pride.
